Here’s What NEWS10 Reported What the Republican Chairman Said:
IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. – The republican candidate for Irondequoit Town Supervisor and former Town Assessor, Anthony Costanza, is facing charges of official misconduct.
Along with official misconduct, Costanza is also facing charges including conflict of interest, recusal and abstention, and prohibition on use of municipal position for personal or private gain, according to the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office.
In court papers, the Monroe County District Attorney states that on April 9, 2024, Costanza “committed
an act relating to his office but constituting an unauthorized exercise of his official functions,
knowing that such act was unauthorized.”
They also state he “willfully used his municipal position or official powers and duties to secure a
financial or material benefit” for a relative, an organization he was involved in, or himself.
In a statement from Costanza, he denies all allegations of wrong doing and is calling them “politically motivated.” Here is the full statement Costanza provided to News10NBC:
“I categorically deny all allegations of wrong doing. The evidence will show I executed my duties as the Town of Irondequoit Assessor within all laws and beyond reproach. These charges are 100% politically motivated. I look forward to my day in court. A full statement will be provided on our website in the coming days.”
The Monroe County Republican Committee Chairman, Patrick Reilly, released the following statement:
“Anthony Constanza only switched parties to Republican in February to run for Irondequoit Supervisor against disgraced Democrat Supervisor Andre Evans. He was only able to do this because of a political vacuum that was created when former Supervisor Rory Fitzpatrick left the Irondequoit political stage. I want to congratulate Republican District Attorney Sandra Doorley for putting partisan labels aside and following the facts and the law in this entire matter.”
